First of all let me thank Tomek, Mariola, Jarek, Robert, Dorota, Gocia, Jurek aka "Jean-Pomme-de-Pin", Tomasz and his girlfriend (sorry I am so bad to remember names...), Anna and her boyfriend "Mr Szyszka Jr" and all others I've forgotten ! We spent a so great week with you, probably my best moments in Poland...
So now, let me tell you our adventure (with Thibault) in Mazury, the main region in Poland with very big lakes linked by channels. Like our last trip to Zakopane, we went to Mazury by hitch hiking. It only took us three cars to get to Mikolaky, a small port by a lake. We discovered beautiful scenery, the weather was nice but the temperature was rather cool. Night under our tent was pretty cold especially for me because I didn’t have a groundsheet. That evening will remain in my mind for a long time : we sat on the pontoon, drinking a beer and contemplating the city in the night…
The next day we left Mikolaky at 11 am to go in the south of Mazury. We walked in beautiful forests near the lake. The atmosphere was very peaceful, I think we can sometimes compare Mazury with some places in Canada ! We ended the day with a campfire near the lake and traditional polish sausages.
The third day, we walked about 20 kms but like "beginners" we made a mistake looking at the map: we walked through a very big forest and 8km further we realized that we were in a cul-de-sac. We had no choice but to stay in Wierzba for the night and take the boat the next day to the the other side of the lake. But our mistake turned out to be very good. As we were drinking a beer (again !) on a terrace pub we met a group of young polish people who were sailing in Mazury. After sharing a good bottle of “Mirabelki” they invited us to join them in their sailing trip. Without a hesitation we said of course "oczywiscie" ! So on the next morning we were on the boat ready to discover all the lakes and have fun.
Our trip with our new friends ended on saturday morning after a last party around the campfire. It was unfortunately time to hitch hike back to Poznan. It ended up being much harder than on our outward trip. We travelled in 5 different cars to get to Torun by 8 pm. The most uncomfortable was in the back of a windowless truck and the best was in a Mercedes Class E driven by 2 very cute girls who were coming back from the seaside where they had been kitesurfing !
Now we have to come down to planet reality !!! :-( A lot of work for the University in Poznan, for ESSCA (my business school in France), etc. I would prefer dreaming about windsurfing, travelling, farniente...
